  Review

Should have been called "Olympia - Part II" this new album weblog Gerardo Frisina, a job that ideally starts where the previous EP "Olympia" had arrived. The training that took part in the recordings is the same: John Guerretti (piano and Hammond), Ernesto Lopez (drums and percussion), Hendrickson "Pucci" Mena (trumpet), Domenico Mamone (baritone and tenor saxophone), Alessandro Marcado (low) and Djilas (flute). It almost seems to be in front of a classic jazz complex; However, a strong passion for African and Latin sounds, combined with abundant dose of electronic music, leads to a completely different result. The exoskeleton of a license plate Gerardo Frisina composition is always the same: jazz contaminated by Afro-Cuban music, Brazilian and Latin-jazz, all made fluid, compelling and above all ... dance! It is almost impossible, in fact, do not associate the music of Frisina to be dance floor environments, and "Blue latin" is no exception: many of his predecessors conceived as the ideal musical accompaniment for a dance floor packed with people, even this record reads a musical genre - jazz - which decades ago was considered dance par excellence and delivers extremely modernized, to the present day. Among the six tracks from "Blue Latin", published exclusively in the LP version, we point out a personal reworking of "Naquela Base" João Donato, where the original piano melody is played from wind instruments, and the track "Incanto", almost meditative, which combines jazz influences spirituals and African atmospheres
