  The Three Reeds Quintet was born from three jazz musicians and instrumentalists reed that, who met nell'effervescente Paris eighties (Federico Benedetti there was a young student of Dave Liebman, Pratesi played in big bands that Benedetti ran, and he also shared different groups), they have decided to create this project, supported by the dramatic rhythm of Ghettos and Beggs. The album "Across Two Centuries" was realized with the support of AMF - Modern Music School of Ferrara and Bologna label To Be Jazz. Choosing the bold formula "pianoless" group, so no harmonic instrument, the "Three Reeds Quintet" definitely goes in the direction of the contrapuntal freedom of improvised interplay and exchange between members, and especially among the "three reeds "that they are the" front line ". The repertoire is heavily inspired by the group led by Elvin Jones Liebman who participated in the 70's (with Steve Grossman and Gene Perla on bass, blue notes historical record "Live at the Lighthouse" in 1972), and when the group plays a song, written by Liebman himself, "Brite piece". They are part of the repertoire compositions by Liebman, some of Benedetti, all in the style of "modal jazz" that developed in those years, and a couple of compositions by Lee Konitz, for whom "the three reeds" nourish a "cult" particularly . Instead of "tribute" to John Coltrane usual, often a must in concerts of Liebman, the quintet plays "Blue Rose" by Duke Ellington, considered the forerunner of the so-called "Coltrane Changes", showing how in jazz there has always been great consistency between tradition and innovation.
