  Review

"From Another World Part 1 is the second Mess Excess album.
The follow-up album to 2015's Fly Away is a ""concept double album"" of which Part 1
is the first half (Part 2 will be released in the first part of 2018).
Mess Excess sounds like progressive rock and progressive metal at the same time; it
is absolutely clear the dichotomy between vintage sounds (for example the massive
use of Minimoog) and modern sounds.
This particular feature is strongly evident in each composition and arragement so it's
easy for the listener to get carried back in Seventies and, suddenly, back to the present
time!
Mess Excess embodies prog music on researching refined melodies and captivating
vocal arrangements instead of performing typical hypertechnical music parts like
most of prog bands do.
Their music shows other typical feature of prog like odd tempos and unconventional
song structure, like forerunner masterminds of Eighties progressive metal acts like
Queensryche and Fates Warning that drawed their first inspiration from classic metal.
Mess Excess trademark is the keyboards role, absolutely leading in melodies,
harmonies and solistic parts and the two female voices, absolutely uncommon in prog
music.
The songs create a storyline of events in the life of the protagonist, Yuri Pavlov a 35-
year old American teacher originally from Russia, in the present time.
One day Yuri turns on the TV and chooses one of the major news channels. There is a
piece of news that catches his interest: a killing of a young man by the armed forces.
Yuri hears the name of the young man that was killed and thinks of his friend from
University days.
As the reportage continues more information is given about the young man, the
journalist call him as a terrorist.
Yuri hesitates, not wanting to believe that his friend had become a terrorist, but
neither does he want to believe in the conspiracy plot.
So the story go on where he can even imagine......
