Since
entering the Italian market, SELF DISTRIBUZIONE
S.r.l. has covered the role of the largest and most successful
music distributor.
The company was created in early 1996 as a partnership with a capital
of one billion Italian lire. Other than the Managing Director Vittorio
Lombardoni, who is an accredited member of the national independent
music market, the partnership includes an important outside investor
and Time Records, one of the most prestigious Italian dance labels
existing.
In the dance area, the company's activities prosper thanks to the
exclusive distribution of several dance labels including Time Records. SELF DISTRIBUZIONE released
numerous singles, albums, and highly successful compilations including
the best-selling "Deejay Parade" series .
In the same year , 1996, the company sees it's first big success
with the album of Robert Miles (over 190.000 copies sold in Italy)
and with many compilations entering strongly into the sales charts.
During the following two years SELF DISTRIBUZIONE gains the distribution of further important labels such as Century
Media, Stickman, Modern Music, Beggars Banquet, and Burning Heart.
In 1999 distribution agreements were made with Warp, Domino, LMP
and 4AD (previously distributed by Virgin).
The structure is further able to compete effectively with multinational
companies in the rapid supply of product to customers and is the
only independent distributor that directly supplies chain stores
and malls for a total of 900 accounts, from retail stores to specialised
channels also comprising regional wholesalers. In 2000 SELF
DISTRIBUZIONE gives birth to its own "chain with
no name" (similar to that created by Vital in the United Kingdom)
to date composed of 85 stores selected for their dependability,
knowledge of the market, ability to provide visibility for the product,
to handle numerous titles, provide updated catalogues to their public
and to supply the distributor with input and useful information
for the overall optimisation of sales and procedures.
The warehouse and offices of SELF DISTRIBUZIONE are located in Milan (Via Gianfranco Malipiero, 14) but the structure guarantees
delivery throughout Italy.
In the course of the last few months of 2001, the company sees the
fusion with BOMB distribution, an important distributor with a particular
orientation towards techno and alternative product, and by consequence
a closer relationship with Verona based S.A.I.F.A.M. Records.
On a more international level , the recent acquisition of Rough
Trade / Tug Boat / Sanctuary' s group ' new catalogue has brought
in another incentive to further developments .
SELF DISTRIBUZIONE's recent
interest and attention in new emerging talents and music/songwriters
of national origin further confirm the excellent state of health
of the company and its leading role which was acquired thanks also
to its high prowess and the quality of its services. As matter of
fact, the new born imprint called Noize Factor with its overseas
production facilities in Los Angeles is going to set a new leading
role with regards to international production skills and expectations.
